The location is great. Only 5-10min walk from the train station and there was a AH (supermarket) on the way.
The room is not very big but very tidy and clean.
Bastion Hotel Zaandam is located close to the A8, a 20-minute drive from the center of Amsterdam and 2.5 mi from Zaanse Schans with its beautiful windmills.

Has a fridge, air conditioning, desk and very comfortable beds. Excellent location. We had a problem with our sink but they fixed it immediately for us.

It's 20 min by train from Amsterdam city center, the staff is friendly and it was easy to take the train. It is also close to the old windmills. There was free capuccino and other types of hot beverages available.

The room was fine, but it was not clear when I booked this that it was a self check in. Relatively quiet for a place above a bar, but I was there on a Tuesday and Wednesday so, grains of salt.
Unfortunately we found Zaandam very run down. When we visited the centre square and there was broken glass and plastic beer cups strewn all over the floor, it was awful. Food was very pricy and not good quality in the centre square. Safe to say we will not be visiting again.

A nice area, clean and well kept.
A nice area, clean and well kept. Easy transport links into the city and to other nearby towns.
Enjoyed a visit to the windmill area, which was a cultural experience, lots to do.
Found eating a task, only because we wanted more traditional, national food, which we found hard to come by.

The Russian Tzar House is a must visit.
The Russian Tzar House is a must visit. It is the oldest house in Netherlands, preserved in very good conditions. You will learn a lot. The Zaan Museum also. The Zaanse Schans it is for one whole day or two days visit. A lot of museums. It is very nice. And if it is good wind you are going to smell only chocolate in the air. The bakery just in front of the bridge is having the most delicious patisserie. The restaurants around have great food, nice personnel.

I stayed in Zaandam to get out of the tourist hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. I liked it's proximity to the train connections which were close by and easy to use. It was nice to see another part of Amsterdam. The shopping areas and cafes / restaurants in Zaandam were really good.
The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. They spoke fluent Dutch and English too and always had a smile on their faces.
The room was spacious, good value for money, clean and had everything in it that one would need on a trip. Snacks, drinks and food was available from reception, and breakfast was also available. A perfect stay for one person, a couple or a group looking for somewhere simple but cosy to stay.
Was also very well situated, easy to get to Amsterdam by public transport, and the centre of Zaandam.
I stayed for 6 nights with my family of 2 kids. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, full equipped kitchen, living room with TV and audio. Demian and Agata live next door, easy to get connected in case needed. My kids are big fan of the cottage. Location wise is very good, 2 stops away from Amsterdam Centraal by Intercity or Sprinter. Zaandam itself is a very good neighbourhood to bring kids. Close to Dekamart, Albert Heijn and Zaandam city center. Our stay in Holland has been memorable!
Beautiful views of the windmills from your bedroom. Comfortable beds, nice updated bathrooms. Quaint dining room/living space where you get your breakfast and beautiful courtyards on the water. Easy walking distance to shopping, restaurants and market. The host was beyond friendly! So quiet and peaceful, truly the most amazing and unique experience. A way better option than staying in the city plus the train station is only a 15 min walk.
We were really early and couldn't check in yet but the hotel kept our luggage stored whilst we went to central Amsterdam. The Hotel is easy to find when you get off the train, it's close to central Amsterdam which is what we were there to see. Really clean, the 4 bed family room is a mezzanine and it was great. Beds comfy, perfect room for 4 friends to share. Kettle and a variety of teas/coffee too.
Location is in the center, nearby to Zaandam station so it was easy to go around. The room is clean, small but it’s fine. Has a great view in the window, you see half of the zaanzam area😊. It’s also near to the super market albert heijn. Has a plug-in near the bed, so convenient while charging and using the phone. Lightning in the room was great as well so it was a good stay.
Even if I read a lot of negative reviews this hotel is really great value for money. Location of the hotel is great, just 2 minutes from main central station. I traveled every day 15 minutes to Amsterdam. Room is small but if you are all day out it doesn't matter. Toilet is small but it is useful.
Staff is great, I asked for more towels and they gave me.
Loved the iconic look of the hotel and the waterfall sound as you sleep! The rooms were nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is located very close to Zaandam station so a perfect location if staying out of Amsterdam as it’s a short train trip to the city and a short train trip to Zaanse Shans the other way.
The location is great, being close to the train station means you can get quickly to the city center, to the airport, etc. It's far from the city center and the overpriced and tiny accomodations there. But shopping centers and restaurants are also close by in Zaandamm. The bed was soft, the room was big, parking was available if you're by car.
The Distrikt Hotel is in a very nice location of Zaandam with lot of food options at walking distance. It is a bit more affordable than Amsterdam and just one (train) stop away or in my case a nice bicycle ride. Breakfast is simple, but very pleasant, good croisants and coffee, also try the pain-au-chocolat.
Very friendly and helpful staff especially in restaurant and bar. Huge comfy bed and gorgeous bathroom. Room and everywhere in hotel was spotlessly clean. Fast WiFi. Lovely spa. Dinner in restaurant was delicious with very good service. Excellent location and easy access into Amsterdam Central.
The staff was very kind and professional. The location was awesome. There were a lot of bars and restaurants nearby that we could walk to. The train station was our main use of transportation and it helped that it was close to the hotel especially after a long day of walking.
Much cheaper alternative than staying in Amsterdam, Zaandam is quite a nice town and only 2 stops on the train from central Amsterdam. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was very nice. Hotel is next to some nice cafes and restaurants and a nice shopping centre.
The fact that it was about a two minute walk to the Zaandam Central station was a plus. The surrounding area had options of different restaurants to choose from. I will definitely be staying at this location again.
Very good location in Zaandam. Also close to Amsterdam by train. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Room was well maintained with nice decor and comfort beds.
